Terminal for Buses in the Bedrock at Slussen

Ge­o­sig­ma has been as­sig­ned to par­ti­ci­pa­te in the plan­ning and de­sign of a new bus ter­mi­nal plan­ned un­der­ground  next to Slus­sen. Ge­o­sig­ma has been in­vol­ved for so­me ti­me, to­gether with Ram­böll, in this big and ex­ci­ting un­der­ground pro­ject. Se­ve­ral dif­fe­rent pro­po­sals re­gar­ding de­sign we­re con­si­de­red, but the pre­fer­red lay­out of the bus ter­mi­nal now  con­sists of a num­ber of rock ca­vi­ti­es with a span of 20-30 m and a length of 200-300 m. The bed­rock co­ver is, in cer­tain loca­tions, qui­te thin and  all  works to the bed­rock will ha­ve to be ca­re­ful­ly ad­ap­ted to the in­ner-ci­ty built en­vi­ron­ment and the in­ten­se traf­fic at Slus­sen (e.g. rail, metro, ro­ads). Our com­plex pro­ject in­vol­ves both rock me­cha­nics and chal­len­ging con­struc­tion plan­ning.

Ge­o­sig­ma par­ti­ci­pa­tes in the pro­g­ram­me and the de­tai­led plan­ning sta­ges with ge­o­lo­gi­cal map­ping, rock te­ch­no­lo­gy spe­ci­fi­ca­tions and con­struc­tion plan­ning ex­per­ti­se. The pro­ject con­ti­nues un­til the end of 2011 with the pos­si­bi­li­ty of par­ti­ci­pa­tion in further plan­ning.

This is how the Ci­ty of Stockholm de­scri­bes the pro­ject:

”Af­ter 75 ye­ars of pub­lic ser­vi­ce, Slus­sen is worn out and needs to be de­mo­lished and comp­le­tely re­built. At the sa­me ti­me, the area will be ad­ap­ted to me­et the needs of the Stockholm po­pu­la­tion of to­mor­row. The Slus­sen of the fu­tu­re is be­ing built to be an ef­fi­ci­ent and sa­fe jun­c­tion, but al­so an att­rac­ti­ve me­e­ting pla­ce whe­re the uni­que po­si­tion between Mäl­a­ren and Salt­sjön is pre­ser­ved.

By 2030 Stockholm/Mäl­ar­da­len is ex­pec­ted to grow by 500 000 in­ha­bi­tants. Over a mil­li­on pe­op­le will be living in the Ci­ty of Stockholm alo­ne. Right now, the­re­fo­re, the­re are so­me 30 ma­jor ci­ty de­ve­lop­ment pro­jects un­der way or plan­ned in Stockholm. Slus­sen is one of the most im­por­tant. The bus ter­mi­nal is be­ing po­si­tio­ned in Ka­ta­ri­na­ber­get. He­re a sa­fe and mo­dern jun­c­tion is be­ing cre­a­ted for all com­mu­ters from Nac­ka/Värm­dö. The bus ter­mi­nal is be­ing built to­gether with Salt­sjö­ba­nan and the metro so that one is ab­le to change between bu­ses, trains and the metro smoothly and in­do­ors. The bus ter­mi­nal is be­ing po­si­tio­ned in Ka­ta­ri­na­ber­get. He­re a sa­fe and mo­dern jun­c­tion is be­ing cre­a­ted for all com­mu­ters from Nac­ka/Värm­dö.. From www.stockholm.se/slus­sen
