Stockholm City Line (Citybanan)
Project and objectives
The Stockholm City Line is one of Sweden’s largest construction projects. It involves building a 6-kilometre-long tunnel for commuter trains under the centre of Stockholm. The line begins at Stockholm Södra station and ends at Tomteboda. Two new commuter stations will be built on the line: City station and Odenplan station. The project also includes a service tunnel which runs parallel to the rail tunnel and seven access and work tunnels. Constructing tunnels ten to forty metres below ground level in Stockholm city centre is a highly complex task, which requires the ability to monitor carefully the effect of the groundwater table during and after the construction phase.
Description
Geosigma’s role involves technical responsibility for the geohydrological aspects of the project. We are responsible for managing and coordinating those parts of the project which relate to groundwater issues. The objective is to prevent subsidence in the structures caused by changes in the groundwater.
