Wetland restoration
Project and objectives
Jämtland county council’s project “Life to ad(d)mire” aims to restore five Natura 2000 wetland areas by blocking ditches and clearing vegetation. The five areas consist of bogland with ditches. They will be restored to their original state by blocking the ditches with watertight dams and returning streams which have been straightened out to their original meandering courses.
Description
Geosigma has carried out a hydrological analysis in order to evaluate the risks involved in the restoration project, assess the effects and consequences of the planned measures and identify suitable methods of restoring the hydrology of the areas to its original state before the ditches were dug. Among other things, this has involved proposing systems and methods for damming the dikes and returning the streams to their meandering courses.
