Geotechnics
Geosigma carries out geotechnical investigations, analyses and plans. We produce stability and subsidence assessments, recommendations for foundation laying and designs for temporary shafts and reinforcements in the soil.
The main purpose of geotechnical investigations is to highlight the rock, soil and groundwater conditions on a site or in an area. We carry out investigations, produce analyses and provide proposals on the action to be taken.
One important area for geotechnical analyses is the Göta älv (river). A number of large landslides have occurred near the river since the 12th century, which is when the most dramatic landslide took place. It is highly likely that there will be another landslide. As a result, Geosigma’s work plays an important role in the improvement of route 45 which is under way in this area that is prone to landslides. Geosigma has extensive experience of stability analyses and geotechnical issues in infrastructure projects. We have designed measures to improve stability in different areas, including the rebuilding work after the landslide in Munkedal.
We also produce recommendations on laying foundations, taking into account both technology and cost, for different types of buildings and facilities. We also design temporary measures and reinforcements in the soil, as well as identifying the causes of damage. One example of this is an advanced subsidence analysis (of an area with a complex stress history) in Hammarby Sjöstad.
Our customers’ requirements and specifications and official regulations form the starting point for all our investigations. The scope of the investigation depends on the stage at which the geotechnical, geohydrological and rock engineering report will be used.
Geosigma’s services include field study programmes and site visits, compiling and analysing new and existing investigations and carrying out surveys, if necessary. This forms the basis for supplementary measures which may be needed immediately or at a later stage. We report on the investigations that we carry out and provide a description of the geotechnical, geohydrological and rock conditions. Depending on the stage of the project, we may also propose supplementary analyses needed before construction work starts. The preparation of detailed plans is one example of an area where we use our geotechnical and rock engineering skills.
We carry out stability and subsidence analyses designed for each specific structure and produce recommendations on foundation laying and reinforcement measures. We also draw up monitoring programmes for the construction phase. We specialise in stability reports on areas prone to landslides. One example of this is our stability survey around the Göta älv (river). We also carry out advanced subsidence investigations, including a report on subsidence and the prognosis for the existing Jordfall bridge and Hammarby Sjöstad.
We take responsibility for projects on behalf of large and small property development companies, local authorities and government bodies.
